Blackjack Books

Beat the Dealer by Edward Thorp
beatdeal.gif (11162 bytes)First published in 1962 the book was so successful it made Las Vegas change the rules. Although there are better counting systems out now this is still an essential purchase for a serious counter because much of the detail can't be found elsewhere and the concepts can still be used to devastating effect on occasion. The book offers complete charts of blackjack percentages that can't be found anywhere else. Thorp has that kind of visionary mind which is always searching for the big score. If you want to read some "war stories" about casino cheating, gambling in the old days or winning thousands in a matter of hours, this is a good choice. There is very good reason this book is still in print.

This is the first blackjack book I bought and the one I give to my friends who are interested in counting as a gift. In making this web page it was a valuable resource, its contents still relevant after all these years.
