Stanford Wong Video Poker is a DOS (or Windows 95/98 DOS Mode) program that finds the best play for any hand of your choosing for any payoff schedule of your choosing, including joker and/or deuces wild. It does the calculations on the fly. It is interactive - it plays like a real video poker game. I wrote the calculating algorithms, and I guarantee they are accurate. Color is required, as is 512k RAM. It comes with a 3 1/2 disk, but 5 1/4 is available by request. Stanford Wong Video Poker is both a game and a tool for analyzing video poker. You have the option of standard playing cards or IGT casino video-poker cards, with or without animation.
This program is a great way to learn playing strategy. Simply input whatever payoff schedule you want, and start playing. You can ask the program to tell you the best play on every hand, alert you whenever you misplay a hand, or sit quietly until you want advice on a hand. Within 30 minutes you will have learned how to play all the most common hands.
You can figure out how to play any hand for almost any payoff schedule. Make deuces wild if you want. Add a joker if you want. Make each four of a kind pay something different if you want. The reason the program can handle any payoff schedule is for each hand dealt the number of possible full houses, flushes, etc. are calculated. Change the payoff schedule and you may change the best way to play a given hand. For example if four 8s pay a large enough jackpot, you might want to break up a full house to draw to three 8s. Stanford Wong Video Poker figures all that out for you. You also can use the program to run simulations to estimate payback, but if you want the exact payback for a particular payoff schedule you will have to get VPEXACT. With Stanford Wong Video Poker you can play tournaments. You have a choice of a variety of one-person and two-person tournaments.
